Fertiliser

N36

A chemically compounded nitrogen fertiliser, 36-0-0-7.5S + 1% Mg, developed jointly by LCF Australia and LDM, precision manufactured by LDM. Every granule carries nitrogen, sulphate sulphur and magnesium, plus trace zinc and boron and a nitrification inhibitor.

Product description

The description supplied with N36 is:

  • Chemically compounded, not a physical blend: every granule carries nitrogen, sulphur and magnesium, plus trace zinc and boron.
  • Described as 20% denser than urea and up to 3× the crush strength of urea, for spreading with less loss to the air.
  • Consistent granule size and quality.
  • A nitrification inhibitor, added during compounding, keeps nitrogen in the ammonium form for longer: up to 90 days of nitrogen availability.

Nitrogen

Nitrification inhibitor

N36 combines ammonium nitrogen and urea nitrogen with a nitrification inhibitor. As with all our inhibitor technology, the inhibitor is chosen for the nutrient loss pathway it targets and added during compounding at our manufacturing partner LDM, so it is in every granule.

The loss pathway

In the soil, ammonium is gradually converted to nitrate. Ammonium holds onto soil particles. Nitrate moves with soil water, so it can be leached below the root zone, and in waterlogged soil it can be turned into gas (denitrification).

What the inhibitor does

The nitrification inhibitor slows the conversion of ammonium to nitrate. Nitrogen stays in the ammonium form for longer, held in the root zone, and less of it is exposed to leaching and denitrification.

Sulphur

Sulphate sulphur: 7.5%

The 7.5% sulphur in N36 is in sulphate form, the form of sulphur that plants take up. It comes from the ammonium sulphate and magnesium sulphate compounded into N36.

Because N36 is chemically compounded rather than blended, every granule carries sulphate sulphur alongside the nitrogen, and the two do not segregate in the bag or the spreader.

Grower results: pending harvest 2026

See it in the paddock

A grower near Horsham, Victoria, applied N36 at the same rate as conventional urea on barley and wheat in the 2026 season. The wheat was also treated with AA100, a newly developed foliar biostimulant. We will publish results after harvest 2026, and make no claim about results until then.
